Pictures: The Big Hoot art project launched

Two-month project will see giant owls appear across the city as part of project to raise £250,000 for Birmingham Children's Hospital

Giant owl sculptures have been appearing across Birmingham as part of a huge fundraising event.

A flock of 5ft 5in fibreglass sculptures landed at The Fort Dunlop building, in Erdington, ahead of the launch of the city’s The Big Hoot project.

The project sees 100 owls displayed in the city centre and suburbs until September 27.

Decorated by artists and celebrities and paid for by sponsors, it is hoped the owls will raise around £250,000 for Birmingham Children's Hospital when they are auctioned off after the event.

The colourful parliament was at The Fort ahead of an event launch by organisers Wild in Art and the Children's Hospital.

Among the designs are tributes to the likes of Harry Potter, Dr Who and Ozzy Osbourne.
