One of The Mailbox’s busiest waterfront bars has been refurbished.

The new layout at Penny Blacks features a number of different tailored zones including party booths, lounge area and cocktail bar.

The bar’s new look features hand-painted wall art created by Birmingham-based signwriters hns signs who worked with interior design company Newman Gauge on the styling.

The design features ‘distressed’ artworks painted on to a wooden panelled door and breeze block walls in addition to a 14-ft neon sign with 240 LED lightbulbs.

Tarah Hewitt, marketing manager at The Mailbox, said: “With preparations already underway on The Mailbox’s redevelopments, it’s great to see existing venues demonstrating their continued commitment by undergoing their own exciting refurbishments.”

Nicola Roberts, general manager at Penny Blacks Wine & Ale House, said: “We love our current waterfront positioning and with all the exciting redevelopments taking place at The Mailbox we thought it would be a good time to refresh our own venue.

“We previously offered our visitors the charm of an upmarket gastro pub but wanted to increase our all-round appeal by developing a number of different tailored zones.”

The Mailbox will also be home to luxury cinema operator, Everyman Cinema, in the autumn of 2014. The three-screen, 12,000 sq ft cinema will feature a fully licenced bar.
