A group of Birmingham entrepreneurs looking to create the first 'Impact Hub' in the UK outside of the capital has hit its £50,000 fundraising target.

The group secured the money through crowdfunding website Kickstarter and will now use it to renovate The Walker Building, in Digbeth, to create a shared working, events and community space.

Impact Hub Birmingham is aiming to bring together people who want to have a positive impact on the city through their work and was started by local businesspeople who have left jobs in sectors including the NHS and housing.

The £50,000 target was reached two days before its deadline after which they would not have received a penny.

Backers who have pledged money will be offered a range of rewards and experiences including reduced membership, launch party invitations and limited edition prints.

Immy Kaur, co-founder of Impact Hub Birmingham, said: "We are absolutely ecstatic to have reached the audacious target, it's taken everything we have.

"We are truly amazed by the power of the crowd, this has shown how many can do a little and the amazing energy when we back each other's ideas.

"A huge thank you to everyone who has been so supportive, encouraging and shared their wisdom with us.

"The Kickstarter will continue until 6pm on January 10 and all funds over £50,000 will go into a scholarship fund to incubate great ideas, projects and people in 2015 with applications for scholarships opening during our launch in March."
