The Resorts World dream is becoming a reality with the £150 million development near the NEC starting to take shape.

Construction work is gathering pace as the Genting UK development draws nearer to opening this summer.

The Post gained exclusive access the site for an update and found a three floor atrium nearly complete.

When work is completed, it will have 17 bars and restaurants, some of which will be operated by Genting, including the Robata Bar and grill which will have an outdoor terrace overlooking the lake.

Barry Clemo, resorts operations director said: “It is the first time we’ve done everything as compact as this, we’ve crammed a lot in to 525,000 sq ft.

“This is unique, there’s nothing quite like this in the UK let alone in Europe. There are a million different possibilies.”

Genting has announced there will be a new 11 screen cinema operated by Cineworld, a 900-delegate conference centre called The Vox, an Asian themed spa with swimming pool and 51 discount retail outlets.

Nike and Gap have already been announced with another 20 retailers to be named in the next couple of weeks.

In all, 75 per cent of the complex has now been letted out with the casino taking up around 10 per cent of the total space.

Mr Clemo added: “It’s all about a great place to come that takes the shopping experience to a new level. It’s not high end premium.”

The leisure complex will become the first of its kind in the UK when it opens, with sister sites in Manila, New York and Singapore.

Influences from Asia can be seen throughout from the decor to the food and the treatments being offered in the spa.

He added: “We are really excited about this. We’ve created something a bit different. The Robota is a method of cooking, a platform used in Japan and Australasia and the Pacific Rim, indoor BBQ food. It will be a stand alone restaurant but also for the hotel.”

The £150 million, 12-storey, development is spread across seven floors, two of which are underground.
