City PR agency Liquid has recruited renowned Birmingham chef David Colcombe to help it launch a new division aimed at the food and drink market.

Mr Colcombe co-founded Opus at Cornwall Street in 2005 but left the restaurant last year to pursue other interests.

He is now working as a consultant for 'Liquid Lunch' which will offer PR, marketing, design, staff training, budgeting and menu creation services.

Mr Colcombe is a member of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and the British Culinary Federation, as well as an honorary fellow and visiting professor at University College Birmingham.

Having previously cooked for the G8 leaders, he joined the Liquid team after ten years as chef director of Opus whose sites also include Café Opus at the Ikon gallery in Brindleyplace and Bar Opus at One Snowhill.

The team is being led by senior account manager Jon Perks with additional consultancy from former Birmingham Post food writer Richard McComb.

He is now a copywriting and content management specialist and has previously won the Guild of Food Writers' Michael Smith Award for Work on British Food in 2012.

Liquid's chief executive Elisabeth Lewis-Jones said: "We're passionate about food and drink - it's our favourite topic of conversation.

"We work with a broad range of food clients, from artisan producers to national trade bodies, and wanted to combine that expertise with the passion and knowledge of David and Richard."
