A bar and restaurant which opened in Birmingham's Summer Row last year is vying for an international design award.

Fleet Street Kitchen has been shortlisted alongside almost 200 other venues from the across the world in the 2014 Restaurant & Bar Design Awards.

The bar was designed by Cheltenham-based Raw Design and has been shortlisted in the standalone restaurant category in which it will compete against venues in London, Manchester and Leeds among others.

It is also the only venue in the Midlands in to be shortlisted in the entire awards scheme.

Fleet Street Kitchen is part of the Town & Country Inns group which also owns Summer Row venues Mechu and Après and the latter's four other sites.

Group operations manager Iain Ross-Mackenzie said: "We are all very excited about being nominated for this prestigious award as it is a worldwide competition with more than 60 countries nominated and 840 submissions

"But especially so because it's not all about London or Manchester being recognised.

"Fleet street Kitchen represents a huge investment for us since opening in March last year and in less than 18 months we have created some very unique dishes to excite the very knowledgeable Midlands public while flying the flag for local suppliers."

The total shortlist contains 190 projects across 29 categories from the world's leading architects, interior designers, lighting designers and hospitality operators and recognise venues in environments such as hotels, transport, leisure and retail.

The winners of the sixth Restaurant & Bar Design Awards will be announced during a ceremony at the Old Truman Brewery in London on the September 25.
