A group of Birmingham entrepreneurs has just a few days left to raise £50,000 to create a new work and community space in the city.

If successful, Impact Hub Birmingham will aim to bring together people who want to have a positive impact on the city through their work.

It was started by local businesspeople who have left jobs in sectors including the NHS and housing.

The group must secure the full £50,000 from crowdfunding website Kickstarter by January 10 otherwise they will not receive anything.

They have already picked up the keys to part of a renovated factory called The Walker Building, in Digbeth, and need the capital to transform it into a shared working, events and community space.

Backers who pledge money to support the project are being offered a range of rewards and experiences including reduced membership, launch party invitations and limited edition prints while 30 supporters will also be able to take part in workshops with photographer Verity Milligan.

The initiative has already raised more than £29,000.

Immy Kaur, co-founder of Impact Hub Birmingham, said: "We are really excited about our new venture and hope that our local community will give us lots of support and back our campaign.

"We will be running all sorts of activities and events in the coming weeks so that people can come and meet us find out more."

Impact Hubs can be found around the world but this is claimed to be the first of its kind in the UK outside of London.

Mark Rogers, chief executive of Birmingham City Council, added: "We know that we ca, and must, do more across the whole of the city to stimulate innovation and creativity.

"This new Impact Hub will act as an accelerator for new ideas and start-ups across Birmingham and the wider Midlands region."
