New Birmingham television production company Full Fat TV has received major backing from an industry giant.

FremantleMedia has taken a 25 per cent stake in the factual entertainment production firm, with an option to increase its share in the future.

Full Fat has been set up by Colette Foster, who was previously the managing director of Remarkable TV, part of Big Brother producer Endemol.

It was only established earlier this year and will focus on making factual entertainment and feature formats.

FremantleMedia is behind productions like Britain's Got Talent, Danger Mouse, The Apprentice and Simply Nigella.

During her time with Remarkable TV, Ms Foster was involved in Gok's Fashion Fix, Secret Eaters, Bodyshockers and BBC2's The House that £100K Built.

FremantleMedia chief executive Cecile Frot-Coutaz said: "Colette has a strong vision of what she wants to achieve and she is one of the most successful and respected creatives in the UK.

"Full Fat TV is a great complement to our existing portfolio and we're looking forward to working with her on what will be a great slate of programming."

With a paucity of BBC investment and studio space, independent production companies are thin on the ground in Birmingham but Ms Foster set up Full Fat in her home city.

She said: "We are hugely excited about developing new standout factual entertainment programming and we am thrilled to be working with the team at FremantleMedia.

"They are terrific creative partners with an unrivalled network through which to develop programming and that is really exciting."
