A photography competition to mark this year's 300th anniversary of Birmingham Cathedral has been launched.

Called 'Faith in Focus', the cathedral in St Philip's Place is asking local photographers to submit their iconic images of the place of worship.

The competition, which is being run in conjunction with the Birmingham Post , will continue until the summer after which winning images will be chosen and displayed in the Library of Birmingham.

They will also feature in cathedral literature and be published in the Birmingham Post.

Faith in Focus is free to enter and has four categories, each with an open and under 21 class.

A Crossing Place is for pictures taken inside the cathedral or outside and which reflect the building as a place of worship or its key location within the city.

Photos of individuals or groups engaged in the cathedral or the square can be submitted for the People of God category while images for Faith in the City will reflect any faith across Birmingham.

Finally, Growing Younger is a new initiative across the diocese related to the cathedral's overall mission strategy of 'Transforming Church'.

Dean of Birmingham, the Very Reverend Catherine Ogle, said: "We are inviting photographers of all ages to capture images in different and imaginative ways.

"We often receive images of the cathedral and surrounding areas, in particular, via social media.

"Some of these images are truly breathtaking and we thought it would be a lovely way of bringing people together during such a special year.

"The competition will be a fantastic way to document the cathedral's 300th year. We encourage entries from anyone regardless of photography experience."
