A city businessman is aiming to smash a world record by playing racketball for at least 24 hours non-stop.

Aidan Keane, founder of Keane, the interior design and branding company which designed Nosh & Quaff restaurant, will undertake the feat tomorrow.

Although there have been numerous attempts at the gruelling challenge, none of them have been recognised by the official Guinness Book of World Records, something that the Brummie businessman is hoping to change.

He will start playing at 1pm tomorrow and batter the balls until after 1pm on Friday at Edgbaston Priory Club.

Aidan will be raising money for the locally based charity Edward’s Trust, which helps bereaved children.

He hopes to raise £30,000 and is being sponsored by restaurant group Lasan.

Aidan said: “The good thing about doing something physically evil like this is the chance it gives you to do someone some good.

“Edward’s Trust looks after children who are going through some very heavy bereavement issues and rely on financial donation to stay caring. It is an amazing team, doing very humbling things, thanklessly.

“I lost my dad when I was ten years old but was lucky to have a big family around me.

“These kids are not so lucky and Edward’s Trust is all many of them have. Imagine that when you’re 11, 12, 13. Like you haven’t got enough on your mind.”

Lasan Group boss Jabbar Khan said: “This is an astonishing effort by a local man for a local charity that does brilliant work.

“We are delighted to play our part in supporting him.”

Chef-director Aktar Islam said: “We know Aidan well and were more than happy to get behind him for this.

“I’m used to swinging pots and pans in a kitchen for long hours every day, but to plan to swing a racket for 24 hours or more non-stop is incredible.”
