More restaurants are set to open in Solihull town centre after borough planners gave a regeneration project the green light.

IM Properties is revamping buildings in Drury Lane South in a £1.5 million project which will see eight eight existing retail units transformed into three, larger restaurants with outdoor seating.

The Coleshill-based firm has also released a new CGI of how the renovation will look (above).

This latest phases builds on work currently taking place to open a new outlet for Italian restaurant and deli chain Carluccio's, which is due to launch in early 2017, and boost the appeal of Mell Square which IM Properties acquired in 2013.

Solihull's main shopping centre Touchwood is also undergoing a major revamp which will bring new retailers and restaurant operators to the town.

The plans for Drury Lane South add to the existing £4 million investment in St Alphege Place and Poplar Way by IM Properties.

Rob Hemus, asset manager from IM Properties, said: "In a fast-changing retail environment, where many people prefer to buy online, shopping is becoming more about socialising and these proposals are essential to ensure the long-term future of Mell Square and the wider Solihull town centre.

"We hope to create a thriving hub of restaurants where people can meet up with friends, family and colleagues and enjoy the atmosphere.

"It will also significantly enhance the character of the existing street scene and attract potential new visitors to Solihull.

"Once complete, we hope it will encourage greater pedestrian movement between Touchwood and Mell Square as both have complementary offerings that all shoppers can enjoy."
