Prolific city development firm Seven Capital is set to invest at least £100 million in regional property next year after securing a £60 million deal on a London hotel.

Seven Capital is developing a string of Birmingham properties amid plans to build 5,000 homes in the city centre - and is promising to keep investing next year.

The firm has a £100 million-plus war chest after agreeing a forward funding deal with Middle Eastern investors on its hotel development in London's trendy Shoreditch market.

Managing director Phil Carlin told the Post that London remained a focus for the firm but Birmingham was its regional capital and the "nucleus" of its investment plans.

The firm has invested in a host of mixed-use developments in the city this year but Mr Carlin expects to do even more in 2015.

He said: "We are starting to come out of a couple of projects we have invested in in London.

"There is at least £100 million that we can reinvest into new projects. London is still booming but we are looking for opportunities elsewhere and we see Birmingham as a fantastic place to invest.

"We are only scratching the surface of what we want to do at present. We want to do something quite special next year and already have a number of opportunities on our radar."

The Shoreditch site was originally acquired by Seven Capital in 2011 and, after securing planning permission in early 2012, the contract was tendered with construction under way.

The proposed hotel extends to 76,348 sq ft over seven levels and is expected to be open for trading in late 2016.

Bal Sohal, chairman at Seven Capital, said: "This is the culmination of a lot of hard work by the team and we are full steam ahead with the task of building the hotel.

"2015 will also be an exciting year and we look to announce the brand that will be born from within this project which itself is hugely exciting as a project."

It has been a busy year for Seven Capital in Birmingham, which has bought Broadway near Five Ways, One Hagley Road, Britannia House and the Kettleworks in the Jewellery Quarter this year.

It also has ongoing schemes at the Harrison Drape building in Digbeth and the Park Regis hotel scheme at Five Ways.
