Another week, another new craft beer bar in Birmingham’s historical quarter.

1000 trades, a craft beer and craft wine venue is now open in Frederick Street in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter.

The Grade II-listed premises, which previously housed Caribbean bar-restaurant Diamonds and Pearlz, has been given a make-over, or should we say make-under - given the extent of bare brick walls and mismatched furniture.

This place has been brought back to look like its original incarnation as a jewellery workshop in the 1870s - pretty much what they are trying to do up the road with the new Button Factory.

Co-owner Jonathan Todd said: “We’re excited to be bringing a fantastic old building in the Jewellery Quarter back to life as an independent bar and kitchen.”

The name was chosen to celebrate Birmingham’s reputation in the early 1900s as the city of a 1000 trades.

Jonathan added: “ We wanted the name to reflect how we're part of a neighbourhood with a rich manufacturing history and a real sense of vibrancy and creativity.

And rather quirkily the bar will also be serving up boxed wine.

John told us: “ Boxed wine has a bit of a naff image but it can be just as great quality as bottled wine and we have sourced the very best. It’s great we can pass on the saving to customers, selling by the glass for around £2.50.”

Further work planned later to renovate the top floor into a private dining area.

Simon Dunmore who looks after the kitchen at Prince Of Wales in Moseley will be the first chef in residency at the bar, serving up his Chilli Dog Dogs when it opens for food on Saturday, June 19.
