The next stage of a city centre office regeneration scheme can be revealed.

The Axis site, next to Birmingham's Mailbox shopping mall, is set to be redeveloped with four new office buildings and a public square.

Phase one was unveiled last year and comprises a new nine-storey office block, called One Axis Square (new CGI above), followed by the demolition of the existing Axis building.

Designs for phase two of the scheme are set to go on show next week, comprising three new office blocks - to be called Two, Three and Four Axis Square - alongside car parking and landscaping (sketch below).

The project is being led by owner London and Continental Railways (LCR) which is due to lodge a planning application with Birmingham City Council following feedback from the consultation.

Overall, the combined scheme will create a new commercial office development of around one million square feet, with additional ground floor retail space and a new public square.

It will benefit from its proximity to New Street station, the extended Midland Metro tram line and other new office-led projects at Arena Central and Paradise.

LCR's development manager Nick Clough said: "During our consultation for One Axis Square, we received some excellent feedback which has allowed us to better prepare our wider proposals and bring together some great ideas.

"We really look forward to consulting on these plans and improving them further before we submit an application to the council."

LCR is wholly owned by the Department for Transport and specialises in the management, development and disposal of property assets.

It has previously worked on the regeneration of King's Cross and the Stratford International Quarter in London.

Both phases of the regeneration have been designed by London-based practice Fletcher Priest Architects.

The public exhibition will take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Holliday Street, on January 27 between 2pm and 7pm and January 28, from 10am to 2pm.

Further information will be on display and members of the project team will be present to discuss the plans and receive feedback as part of the public consultation.

Anybody unable to attend can visit an online exhibition and provide feedback digitally at www.axissquare.co.uk from January 27.
