New traffic flows and further road closures are set to commence this weekend as part of the £500 million Paradise development.

From Sunday, Great Charles Street southbound will have single lane traffic between Newhall Street and Suffolk Street Queensway/Brunel Street while traffic direction will be reversed on Charlotte Street (see map above).

Access to the street in the Jewellery Quarter will only be available from Newhall Street and there will also be no access at all to Sand Pits and Parade.

Up until now, cars have been able to squeeze through the roadworks to turn left into Charlotte Street and Fleet Street but from Sunday all traffic will have to go up Newhall Hill.

Traffic will still be able to turn left from Newhall Street into Lionel Street to access part of Summer Row and turn back down Fleet Street.

This latest phase of roadworks, expected to be in force until next spring, forms part of the first phase of major regeneration around Paradise Circus Queensway island and Chamberlain Square.

Eventually, there will be a new traffic flow system in place around the island, expected late next year, while demolition work is currently ongoing at Central Library.

Two new office blocks - called One and Two Chamberlain Square - are due to open in 2018 and 2019 and will the first of up to 11 new buildings.
