Another historic building in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter is set to be converted into a new bar.

The Bismillah Building, in Constitution Hill, will house the venue run by a new company called Lone Wolf Pubs, the brainchild of brother and sister team Joshua and Sallie McFadyen.

The building, which used to house the city's Pakistan Consulate, is owned by housing association Midland Heart and a deal has been agreed to let the section on the corner with Water Street, subject to planning permission.

The bar will be able to accommodate up to 120 people and serve cold snacks but will not have kitchen facilities to run a hot food menu.

Upper floors of the building will continue to be run as social housing by Midland Heart which selected Lone Wolf Pubs as its preferred operator because it felt the pub would be run in "a low-key manner", according to newly submitted planning documents.

The Bismillah Building housed the electroplating works of international firm Barker Brothers from the early 20th century and the company's branding can still be seen on a large front door.

Other recent openings in the district include real ale bars 1000 trades and The Pig & Tail while new venues are planned in Ludgate Hill and the former Jewellery Quarter police station which is being eyed by historic brewery Davenports.
