Malcolm Smith, a senior director with property consultancy GVA, has lost his battle with cancer.

The 62 year old worked for the firm's building consultancy team in Birmingham having joined GVA in London in 1989.

He moved to the Midlands with his family in the early 1990s to lead the agency's building team in Birmingham but his health issues meant he had to take a step back from the business more recently.

GVA's regional senior director in the Midlands Ian Stringer said: "I am sure I speak for everyone who knew Malcolm in saying that he was a thoroughly nice man and a true gent.

"Our sincere condolences go to his family and his colleagues in the Building‎ team."

Mr Smith died earlier this month at his Worcestershire home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Dee and their children Becky and Dan.
