Civil and structural engineering consultancy CWA has appointed a new engineering director.

John Panesar has joined the growing Birmingham practice from Stewart and Harris where he was also civil engineering director.

The 48-year-old has more than 25 years of experience in all aspects of civil engineering.

He began his career as a site engineer with Higgs and Hill after graduating with an honours degree in civil and structural engineering from Bradford University.

During his career he has designed, managed and delivered a wide range of projects from domestic housing to multi-million pound commercial developments.

CWA, which is based in the Jewellery Quarter and was founded in 2011, has recently rebranded from Copeland Wedge Associates and is on target to top the £2 million turnover mark by the end of 2014.

Director Steve Wedge said the consultancy saw John Panesar's appointment as a significant coup.

"We are expanding rapidly across all sectors with a wide range of projects. To get someone with John's reputation and experience is a big plus for us and will add to the capabilities of our excellent team," he said.

Mr Panesar added: "I am joining CWA at a particularly exciting time as the consultancy rebrands and prepares for a fast-growing future, working with a variety of high profile and blue chip clients."
