Birmingham property specialist Brett Williams, partner in the residential service charge department of property agents CPBigwood, has stepped down from the board of the Association of Residential Managing Agents after 13 years.

Mr Williams joined the technical committee in 2000, becoming a board director and then chairman from 2007-10. There have only been nine chairmen of ARMA from its inception to date.

He told the recent AGM there remained a “huge agenda” for the committee to address.

He said: “ARMA has come a long way in a relatively short time.

"In 2000 when I first become involved ARMA had 113 corporate members. Ten years later as I came to the end of my term as chairman, we had 252. Now it is over 300. With this growth, secretariat staff numbers have increased and we have been able to do much more for the membership.

“It is about maintaining professionalism, continuing to raise standards and the provision of excellent customer service.

“Over the years, we have done a lot to move forward with training programmes, self regulation, and independent adjudication systems.

"It is all about continual improvement and ARMA-Q, the new self-regulatory regime put in place by ARMA in the absence of statutory regulation, is the next step.”

Three other former chairmen, Gerry Fox, David Clark and Duncan Rendall, also stepped down at the AGM.

ARMA is the leading trade association for residential managing agents in England and Wales, it seeks to promote high standards of leasehold management and professionalism.
