Popular Harborne restaurant COMiDA will be relocating to Highfield Road, Edgbaston in September.

COMiDA will move into the premises of former Scandinavian restaurant Norkskje which in recent months has been operating as a deli.

Based in a converted terraced house on Gordon Road, COMiDA's Harborne regulars include Nathan Eades, head chef at Michelin starred Simpsons in Edgbaston, who told us its one of his favourite restaurants for their use of quality produce as well as their relaxed atmosphere.

But in May following complaints from neighbours over smells and late night noise, owners Jade Gomila and Stewart West were told by Birmingham Council that their permanent planning application had been refused.

Jade who is general manager and front of house at COMiDA told us: “We were devastated. We were told we had to close by September and need to find new premises.

"It has been difficult. We looked at Jewellery Quarter and Moseley but when the Highfield Road location in Edgbaston came up we knew it was perfect as it's close enough for our loyal customers in Harborne.”

Jade and trained chef Stephen who studied at Birmingham College Of Food and has worked in Barcelona, will be opening the new COMiDA in mid September. The restaurant will be much bigger than their old place and spread across two floors and one courtyard for al fresco dining.

" We will have an open kitchen and bar downstairs with the main restaurant upstairs. We should be able to do 70 ish covers.

We have fantastic support as an small independent and we're in a good position to expand and hopefully introduce more people to COMiDA.

And thanks to the new space, the COMiDA concept will be 'evolving their food concept.'

“In Harborne, we have had diners who come in expecting traditional Spanish tapas but we're much more a modern European restaurant.

“Moving into this beautiful building is an exciting chance for us to establish our style of cuisine.”

Popular dishes on their ever changing seasonal menu include truffle mushroom croquettes, the popular pork belly, pearl barley, apple and Iberico morcilla, as well as fennel, goats' cheese, pear and hazlenuts.

COMiDA will be joining other bars and restaurants on Highfield Road which include The Edgbaston cocktail bar, The Highfield gastro pub and the acclaimed Simpsons which is across the road.

COMiDA will close at its Harborne address in mid August.
