The most expensive private house ever sold at auction in Birmingham has been bought.

The property, at 11 Farquhar Road in Edgbaston, was sold for £1.37 million off a guide price of £1.25 million to £1.3 million.

The detached, five-bedroom property has 1.2 acres of land and sits on one of Birmingham's most desirable roads, often featuring in countdowns of the West Midlands' richest streets.

It has two garages, a drawing room, outbuildings and a garden set over three levels as well as scope for even further extension or redevelopment.

Gurpreet Bassi, auctions partner with SDL Bigwood which ran the event with Robert Powell & Co, said: "It was a great result for us and another feather in the cap for Birmingham.

"Once again, we are pleased to report that we had a strong auction, with a very busy room and we raised over £8.7 million in sales with a sale success rate of 85 per cent."

Overall, the auction featured 104 lots including a glut of Birmingham City Council properties, all of which sold, while the former Castle Vale police station was bought for £320,000.
