Almost 1,200 jobs are set to be created in the Midlands in the run up to Christmas by parcel delivery firm Yodel.

The company said it planned to recruit 1,187 full- and part-time staff in Sandwell, Lichfield and Leamington Spa along with other locations in the region.

The carrier is looking for directly employed drivers and owner drivers who will be required to provide their own vans, both of whom will be based at their local service centres.

It is also looking to recruit couriers.

Yodel said that, while these roles were initially seasonal positions for the peak period, many of them were expected to become permanent because of the number of new retailers joining Yodel and the continued growth in parcel volumes.

Executive chairman Dick Stead said: "Our recent research has shown that the 2015 Christmas period is set to break the mould once again, with nearly four times as many people planning to take advantage of the Black Friday online promotions.

"Our recruitment and training will support this demand and ensure that both our retail clients and their shoppers have an enjoyable Christmas."
