Movers and shakers from Birmingham’s arts and literature scene gathered to celebrate the launch of a new exhibition celebrating the achievements of William Shakespeare.

Marking the 400th anniversary of the poet and playwright’s death, Our Shakespeare launched at the Library of Birmingham and will run until September 3.

The exhibition is the result of a cultural partnership between the Library of Birmingham and The British Library and features around 100 items relating to Shakespeare and his work, including books, films, posters and photographs and local treasures.

Guests were treated to canapés and drinks, while actor Rochi Rampal performed a Shakesperean recital and speeches were delivered by David Potts, head of services at the library, Roly Keating, chief executive at The British Library, and Coun Penny Holbrook, the council’s cabinet member for skills learning and culture.
