Another Michelin-star chef is heading to Birmingham after multi-award winning Tom Aikens revealed he was opening a restaurant in The Mailbox.

The Great British Menu star has revealed he will open Tom’s Kitchen Birmingham, a restaurant, bar and deli, in December.

The chef, who currently has four restaurants in London and Istanbul, said he was venturing outside the capital for the first time after being taken by the city’s improving food scene.

He said: “Birmingham is a vibrant and bustling city with a thriving food scene. There is already a wonderful array of restaurants in the city and I believe that Tom’s Kitchen will offer an exciting new option for diners in The Mailbox development.”

Aikens has established himself as one of the country’s most-respected chefs in a decade since opening his debut Chelsea restaurant.

At 26, he became the youngest British chef ever to be awarded two Michelin stars and has become known for ethically sourced ingredients.

The restaurant at The Mailbox, which is expected to be open across the festive period, will be based at one of the newly created units overlooking the urban room, created in the £50 million regeneration of the centre.

As the first UK Tom’s Kitchen venture outside of London, the restaurant will offer all-day dining, seven days a week, and serve British favourites and comfort food classics in a relaxed and informal setting.

There will also be a range of private and semi-private spaces, perfect for parties and events.

Simon Samuels, partner at Brockton Capital, joint owner of The Mailbox, said: “We’re hugely excited to welcome Tom’s Kitchen to the Mailbox later this year.
