High street retailer Marks & Spencer has announced plans to close two of its stores affecting more than 120 staff.

The company confirmed today it would be closing its shop at The Fort shopping park in Castle Bromwich and its Simply Food site in Stratford Road, Shirley.

It is understood 90 full- and part-time jobs are affected at The Fort and a further 38 jobs in Shirley.

All staff have been offered redeployment following the announcement but closure dates for the two shops have not been confirmed.

A spokeswoman for the company added that there would not be any redundancies as a result of the closures.

The company is currently buildings its largest store in the Midlands at Longbridge where it will eventually employ around 350 staff.
