His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester visited Soho House, Handsworth to commemorate the Lunar Society’s 250th anniversary. Formerly the home of entrepreneur Matthew Boulton, it was the meeting place for some of society’s greatest minds, who together, helped shape not only Birmingham but the world.
The Duke of Gloucester was received by West Midlands Deputy Lieutenant Mr David Clarke before meeting key members of the Society. He was given a tour of Soho House by Museum team manager, Samina Kosar before unveiling a plaque to mark the occasion.
Alan Wenban-Smith, chairman of The Lunar Society, said: “We were particularly honoured that HRH The Duke of Gloucester KG GCVO accepted our invitation to commemorate this significant anniversary with us – and there was perhaps no location more fitting than Soho House, the home of Matthew Boulton and the original meeting place of The Lunar Society.”
