The West Midlands branch of the Institute of Directors has appointed a new regional director.

Calum Nisbet succeeds John Phillips, who became the networking body's first paid employee outside of the capital when he joined in 1993 and who announced his retirement earlier this year.

Mr Nisbet has a background of business development gained in a number of sectors and has also worked closely with the IoD for several years.

He spent seven years with directory service Yell and more recently was a director of Zig Zag Consulting, which supports organisations in developing partnerships, finding sponsorship and engaging with supporters.

His clients have included the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Birmingham Airport, Marketing Birmingham and Qatar Airways.

He said: "I feel very privileged to take on the role that John has developed over the past 23 years.

"John has set the bar high, having achieved a number of firsts for the IoD, including first regional director, young directors forum and IoD Regional Awards.

"I look forward to building on his successes and working with our local members and business community to ensure that our region goes from strength to strength."

Jason Wouhra, chairman of the IoD West Midlands, added: "I have known Calum for six years and am delighted that he has agreed to join the team as we enter our next exciting chapter.

"He has big shoes to fill but I know he will rise to the challenge.

"His background of engaging with businesses and their leaders across the Midlands, along with his experience in the sponsorship market, will be invaluable to the growth of our region."
