An engineering firm whose roots can be traced back to the 1940s has fallen into administration placing 150 jobs at risk.

Worcestershire-based Dytecna provides engineering, technology and support services, particularly for the defence sector, and previous projects have included engineering services for wastewater treatment for battlefield and refugee camp situations.

It is headquartered on Malvern Hills Science Park and operates from two further sites in Powys and Hampshire.

Philip Watkins and Geoff Rowley, from the London office of financial services firm FRP Advisory, have been appointed joint administrators.

The firm said Dytecna would continue to trade while administrators managed the company as a going-concern and liaised with stakeholders and a sales process was now under way.

FRP added in a statement: "Despite a loyal customer base and a long and profitable trading history, the company has recently faced a deterioration in trading which had put unsustainable pressure on the business under its current financial structure.

"Efforts to bring in external investment failed to materialise, leaving the company with no option but to seek the protection of administration while seeking new investment and a buyer."

Mr Watkins added: "We are highly focused on working with Dytecna's staff, customers and suppliers and engaging with interested parties, while seeking a suitable buyer.

"Dytecna is a business with its roots tracing back to 1947 and has enjoyed a good working relationship with a number of loyal clients over the years.

"In line with trading conditions affecting similar firms in its sector, the business has had to manage unsustainable pressure on its cash flow.

"The business maintains a strong order book and will aim to continue to deliver the high level of service for which the business is known."
