Birmingham city centre location Brindleyplace smashed its best-ever summer visitor figures after it welcomed more than a million people.

Between June and September Brindleyplace attracted 1.2 million visitors as it hosted a raft of festivals and community events.

During this period, the estate received 200,000 more visitors compared to the period between January and March – a 24 per cent rise in footfall.

The most successful event was the Outdoor Film Festival in July, when Brindleyplace recorded an extra 12,575 visitors compared to the same week in June. Restaurants in the area saw an increase in profit of up to 25 per cent during the events.

Lydia Ellis, destination marketing manager, said: “This summer, Brindleyplace organised and hosted a number of hugely successful festivals and events.

"Not only did the Outdoor Film Festival, Chilli Festival and Dragonboat Festival encourage more people to visit the estate, but they also contributed to an increase in turnover reported by many of the restaurants and bars at Brindleyplace.”

The venue also welcomed a record number of visitors to its website, reporting a 70 per cent increase in web traffic in July 2013, compared to July 2012.

Ms Ellis added: “Brindleyplace remains one of the top leisure destinations in Birmingham and these statistics demonstrate just how popular the estate is with those living, working and visiting the city centre.

"Hosting free events is incredibly important to Brindleyplace as it allows us to bring together both the local community and our business tenants.”

Brindleyplace is home to 24 restaurants, cafes and bars, as well as 11 office buildings, with 8,500 employees based on the estate. It has recently announced the arrival of international finance firm Deutsche Bank in one of the city’s biggest property deals.
