BDO’s Technology Advisory Team hosted the fourth in its series of briefings for the “Reluctant IT Director” at BDO’s offices in Colmore Row.

These briefings are aimed specifically at senior managers in mid-market businesses, such as the finance director, who have been “dropped in IT”; helping them understand the practical and commercial issues inherent in technical matters.

In this session, the presenters explored best practice in managing IT in mid-market companies and focused on Issue Management with SLA’s, Staff and their Responsibilities and developing an IT strategy.

Gavin Davis and John Dennison from the BDO Technology Advisory team presented at the event . Mr Davis said: “We ask attendees to suggest topics for these briefing sessions to ensure they are relevant to their business”.

“Good IT Management becomes ever more important as a business grows and simply ‘making do’ is no longer an option. Most businesses rely heavily on IT and can very quickly become dependent on systems and staff.

“This dependency is often understood but passed over because the business is unsure of the options open to them”.

“At BDO we are regularly asked to review the IT systems for businesses who have experienced a serious systems failure or who have lost their key source of technical knowledge.

“By understanding the risks and how to mitigate them at an early stage will allow IT to grow in parallel with the business”.

“With business IT becoming increasingly sophisticated and such people are being called on to make decisions on technology that are well out of their comfort zone.

“These workshops, and BDO’s Reluctant IT Director Forum on LinkedIn, provide a source of independent advice and support,” Mr Davis added.
