Historic high street fashion brand Austin Reed is poised to become the latest name in British retail to go into administration.

The company, which was founded in 1900 and has several stores in the West Midlands, has filed a notice of its intention to appoint administrators after several attempts at a rescue fell flat.

According to the Daily Telegraph , Alix Partners will be officially appointed as administrators to firm this morning.

This latest blow for the high street follows the news this week that BHS has fallen into administration, placing around 11,000 jobs under threat.

Austin Reed has stores in the Birmingham's business district - in Temple Row and a concession in House of Fraser - along with two in Stratford, a concession in Wolverhampton's House of Fraser and outlets in Lichfield and Walsall.

The company employs around 1,000 staff in total.

Last year, it closed 31 stores while a planning application was lodged to turn the Temple Row outlet and its neighbour Louis Vuitton into restaurants.

Austin Reed had not responded to a request for comment at the time of publication.
